Suspension (1998)

Silent double screen video installation.

Suspension traces the endeavours of technological progress: sombre reflections on the hopeless attempt to defy gravity, to lift off, to take flight from the human inevitable. The emphasis on redirecting expectations emerges in Suspension, the anticipated upward direction of both the pigeon and the feet subtly touches upon the more ethereal qualities of levitation. Expectancy is light when imbued with desire and fantasy but becomes heavy with its obstruction resulting in fear and anxiety.
